Distinction:

From above descriptions these distinctions might have been understood:

  1. Jealousy has both the wishes for deprivation as well as wish for self-achievement.
  2. Malevolence has only the wish for deprivation due to hatred.
  3. Admiration has only the wish for self-achievement.
  4. Wish for deprivation for 'just cause'.

 Shariah Orders: (Principles of Islam)

Jealousy and malevolence are forbidden (Haram) in Islam, and if not prayed for forgiveness and repented, lead to hell. While admiration and wish for deprivation for just cause are permitted and in some cases causes of eternal rewards.

The reasons for condemning jealousy and malevolence:

 First reason:

A jealous person is not contended with the allocation (favors/blessings i.e. wealth, food, occupation etc.) of Allah (God) and for his own will and wish wants change in distribution of Allah (God) no matter Allah (God) is pleased with that or not.

v     Holy prophet Zakaria (Allah’s grace and peace be upon Him) says: “Allah (God) says: "jealous person is enemy of my favors on mankind, as disgruntles on my friend (blessed one)and is not satisfied with what I have ascertained for the people".(From the book: Ahia-ul-uloom)

v     An wise man has said: "A jealous person is like a rivals/ challenges to his lord (Allah (God)) due to five reasons:

1.      Disgruntles in every favor bestowed on other by Allah (God).

2.      He is discontented with the allocation and distribution of favors of Allah (God), as if questioning the distribution of Allah (God).

3.      He is stingiest of the favors of Allah (God).

4.      He wants to defame the person blessed by Allah (God) and wishes that the favors of Allah (God) be taken away from him.

5.      He helps his friend satan.           (From the book: Tunbeh-Al-Gafileen)

 Second reason:

The doings of disciples are presented to the Holy prophets (peace be upon them), and they are pleased by the good deeds of their followers while displease on the bad deeds. The saying of Holy Prophet Muhummed (Allah’s grace and peace be upon Him) is: "Every Monday and Thursday the deeds of people are presented to Allah (God) (remember that Allah knows everything and sees every thing) and presented to Holy Prophets (peace be upon them) and parents every Friday. When they see good deeds they get pleased and the glow and sparkle of their faces increase (due to happiness). Thus be afraid of saddening your dead by your sins."

From above saying this can be sensibly derived that when the sin of jealousy will be presented to Holy Prophet Muhummed (Allah’s grace and peace be upon Him), it will disappoint you (Allah’s grace and peace be upon Him) and thus such act entitled to be condemned.

 Third reason:

This act of jealousy involves disobedience of Allah (God) and his Holy Prophet Muhummed (Allah’s grace and peace be upon Him). (As will be clear from further discussion)

 Fourth reason:

Definitely the loss of favor (blessing) of Allah (God) from the person (for whom the jealous is wishing for deprivation) will displease him and his friends. However the jealous is wishing for the same and thus in other way he is wishing for the displeasure of other fellow beings (Muslims). Wishing for displeasure and sadness of fellow Muslim is forbidden (haram).

Fifth reason:

The sin displeases Allah (God) and his Holy Prophet Muhummed (Allah’s grace and peace be upon Him) and other fellow Muslims. Such act is a cause of happiness for the Satan and thus an act, which pleases Satan is forbidden and questionable (Naja-iz).

Sixth reason:

Due to abomination of the sin of jealousy, the person jealous, gets involved in many other sins like back biting, tale bearing, lying, getting happy on the sadness of a fellow being and saddening on the happiness of fellow being, false accusations, trying to harm others by injustice and other means. (Further details and explanation will be discussed under the heading of "Symptoms" in further discussion). Thus the act which is the reason for many other sins is definitely path to destruction in this world as well as the next world (after death).

From the above discussion the evil of jealousy should have become clear. This is the rule of nature that any act that is mischievous and destructive for the world to come after death is forbidden. Therefore Holy Quran (Holy Book of Allah descended on Holy Prophet Muhummed (Allah’s grace and peace be upon Him)) and several Hadiths forbid this sin.
